Thailand's Privilege Card Membership Skyrockets Amid Global Unrest

The Thailand Privilege Card program, previously known as the Thailand Elite Visa, has experienced an unprecedented surge in membership, crossing 36,000 active members, driven by global geopolitical conflicts and political instability. The program, offering long-stay visas from five to 20 years, revamped its structure to include four tailored packages: Gold, Diamond, Platinum, and Reserve, with prices ranging between THB 900,000 (approximately US$27,000) and THB 5 million (US$150,000), the latter being invite-only.

In the fiscal year 2023, the program welcomed a record 11,846 new members, achieving a 108% increase in new memberships compared to the previous year. This growth is attributed to the search for a peaceful second home, with Thailand emerging as a favored destination. By the end of February 2024, membership tallied at 36,397, with significant contributions from the Russian, Myanmar, and Taiwanese markets. China leads with 45% of the total memberships.

Under the leadership of Manatase Annawat, president of Thailand Privilege Card Co (TPC), the program has set an ambitious revenue target of THB 50 billion (about US$1.5 billion) for 2024. TPC's strategy focuses on longer stays by members, who on average, visit Thailand 3.6 times a year, staying 50 days per trip and spending THB 1.8 million annually.

TPC's efforts to reach its goal include expanding to new markets like India, Gulf countries, and the LGBT community, enhancing vendor and partner networks, and incorporating advanced technologies and analytics. This initiative aligns with the Tourism Authority of Thailand's (TAT) vision of establishing Thailand as a unique and sustainable destination, amidst increasing competition from other Southeast Asian countries' residency programs.
